スノーボード日記 Journal of snowboarding in New Zealand
I went snowboarding for the first time in New Zealand. My friend picked me up in the early morning and took me to Mt Dobson ski area. The sky we saw on the way was beautiful and a pig farm we passed by had interesting-looking pig houses that reminded us of STAR WARS. Although the road up to the ski field was a narrow unpaved mountain road, my friend said it’s in good condition, which made me surprised because the access to ski fields where I have been in Japan (Hakuba) was way easier to go as its location was close to a town and the road was paved.
There were a couple of more differences in the ski area compared to one in Japan. The style of a lift pass was different and I had no idea how to attach it on my jacket until I asked about it to a clerk at the ticket office. Also, it was the first time for me to use a type of lift called platter or poma and it took me a while to get a knack for riding on it.
My friend taught me some snowboarding tips and it helped me to get an image of body movement ( I still need a lot of practice for smooth boarding though…) I enjoyed not only sliding down a snowy hill, but also chatting with my friends very much 😀
ニュージーランドで初めてスノーボードに行きました。当日は早朝に友達が迎えに来てくれて、スキー場まで連れて行ってくれました。道中に見た空がとても綺麗だったのと、通りかかった養豚場に並ぶ豚小屋がスターウォーズに出てきそうな面白い形だったのが印象的でした。山の上のスキー場まで登っていく道は細い未舗装路の山道でしたが、友達曰く状態が良いとの事。私がこれまでに行ったことのある日本（白馬）のスキー場は町に近く、道路も舗装されていて、アクセスがはるかに容易なので驚きました。
さらに、スキー場でも日本との違いがいくつかありました。リフト券の形が違っていて、チケット売り場の係員さんに聞くまでどうやってウェアにつけたらいいかわからず。プラターまたはポマーと呼ばれる一人乗り用のリフトに乗るのも初めてで、乗るコツをつかむまでしばらくかかりました。
友達がスノボの滑り方のコツを教えてくれたおかげで、体の動かし方のイメージがしやすくなり上手くなった気がしますが、動画で自分の滑っている姿を確認するとまだまだ動きが硬い…もっと練習が必要ですね。滑るのも楽しかったですが、友達ともたくさん話せて楽しかったです♪
