ニュージーランド「Harbour street bakery」外観&似顔絵 Painting of Harbour Street bakery in New Zealand
ニュージーランドの南島の町オアマルはこれまで唯一私が旅の途中で「沈没」（居心地がよくなってそのまま居ついてしまう事）した町。
小さな町なので最初は「3日もあれば充分でしょう」と思っていたのですが、面白い出会いの連続で友達、顔なじみがたくさんでき、絵に描きたい場所があちこちにあり、仕事も住む場所も手に入れて、気が付けば4ヶ月も滞在していました（2020年2~6月）。
ここで得た友達や価値観、思い出は私にとってかなり大きく、帰国後に思い返しても、あの時オアマルに行って本当に良かったなと思います。
そんなオアマルでいただいた仕事の一つがこちら。
Harbour street bakeryというパン屋さんの外観と店主の娘ちゃんを描かせていただきました。
オアマルはヴィクトリア調の古い町並みが有名で、イベント等の時にはヴィクトリア風のレトロなドレスで着飾った人達もよく見かけます。
Harbour street bakeryが位置する通りはそんなオアマルの中心地。娘ちゃんはオアマルらしくドレスアップし、パン屋さんイチオシのパンを抱えている姿にしました。
オアマル滞在中、しょっちゅうこのパン屋さんでちょっとした立ち話を楽しんで、コーヒーやパイ（ニュージーランドではパイはどこでも売っている人気商品。私にとってはここのパイがニュージーランド No.1！）をいただいて、美味しさはもちろんのこと、オーナーのKristyとの友情が忘れられません。
帰国前に挨拶に行った時、「あなたはオアマルファミリーの一員よ。」と言ってくれて嬉しいのと同時に涙をこらえるのに必死でした。「私のメイク、ウォータープルーフじゃないから泣かせないで」と言う彼女のユーモアも大好きです^^
Oamaru in New Zealand is such an attractive town! I thought that 3days were enough to see Oamaru at first, but I eventually stayed there for 4 months because there were many friendly people and beautiful places. I got good friends and new sense of values which are very important for me there, and I am really grateful that I could stay there.
One of my commission works in Oamaru is the painting of Harbour street bakery and their lovely daughter holding their delicious bread. The daughter wears Victorian dress because Oamaru is famous for Victorian style buildings and people love to dress up with Victorian dress.
I often stopped for coffee and pies which are my best pies in New Zealand, and I also enjoyed chatting there. I never forget the yummy taste and good friendship with the owner Kristy. When I went to say goodbye to her before I left Oamaru, she said that I was a member of Oamaru family. I was really glad to hear that and almost cried at the same time. I love her kindness and humor to say “I am not waterproof. Don’t make me cry.” Thank you so much, Kristy!
